Facebook Channel Setup

Connect a Facebook Page so direct messages (Messenger) and post comments flow into the Applied Inbox, where agents can reply automatically or route to your team.

Before you start

You’ll need:

  • A Facebook Page for your business.
  • An Admin role on that Page (Editor and below can’t grant the permissions required to connect).
  • Messenger enabled on the Page (it is by default — check Page Settings → Privacy → Messages if you’ve changed it).

If you want to handle comments separately from DMs, you can also create an agent dedicated to public-facing replies before connecting.

Step 1: Connect your Facebook Page

  1. In Applied, open Settings → Workspace → Channels → Facebook.
  2. Click Connect Facebook.
  3. In the Facebook popup, log in as the Page admin and grant the permissions Applied requests (Messenger messaging, page management, comments).
  4. Pick the Page (or Pages) you want to connect.
  5. Approve the permissions to finish the flow.

The Page appears in the Connected Facebook accounts list once the connection succeeds.

💡 Tip: If you don’t see your Page listed in the Facebook popup, you’re likely signed in as a non-admin. Sign out, sign back in as the Page admin, and retry.

Step 2: Assign agents

For each connected Page, set:

FieldWhat it handles
Direct messages agentAuto-replies to Messenger DMs sent to this Page. Leave unassigned to route every DM straight to humans.
Comments agentAuto-replies to comments on this Page’s posts. Leave unassigned to route comments to your team silently.

Only agents with Chat modality (or All) are eligible — set the modality on the agent’s settings page if your agent doesn’t appear.

You can change these at any time; new assignments take effect on the next incoming message.

Step 3: Send a test

  1. From a personal Facebook account, send a DM to your connected Page.
  2. Confirm the message appears in the Applied Inbox.
  3. If a DM agent is assigned, confirm it replies. Otherwise reply manually from the Inbox and check the message arrives back in Messenger.
  4. Repeat for comments: post on the Page from the business account, then comment from a personal account.

If messages don’t arrive, recheck that the Page admin granted all requested permissions during the connect flow, then contact support@appliedlabs.ai.

Disconnecting

To stop receiving messages from a Page, click Disconnect on its card in Settings → Workspace → Channels → Facebook. This revokes Applied’s permissions for that Page only — other connected Pages are unaffected. Past conversations remain in the Inbox.
